Program Coordinator, Battery and Visual Designer
This is John’s 13th year on the design team and staff with Pulse. He is a full-time percussion designer and educator involved in teaching over 20 high school and independent percussion programs in Southern California since 1997. He received his Bachelor of Arts in percussion from California State University Long Beach, in the spring of 2000.
He has been the Percussion Director at Chino Hills HS since 2005 and was director of percussion at Pacifica HS from 2000-2011. John joined the design team for the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps as the battery arranger from 2013-2016. Previously, he worked with the Blue Devil B Corps as the percussion arranger from 2007-2012 and was the Battery Arranger/ Percussion Caption Head for the Esperanza Drum & Bugle Corps from San Diego, CA from 2002-2006. His marching experience includes Velvet Knights and Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corps organizations.
John is a Vic Firth Signature artist, a Yamaha artist, a Remo artist, a Zildjian artist and a WGI Percussion Steering Committee/Advisory Board member. He is also a co-founder of Box-Six.com, a website compiling original indoor percussion and marching band shows with fellow composer Ian Grom.

Front Ensemble Coordinator/Arranger
This is Ian’s 13th year on staff with Pulse. He is a composer and educator based out of Southern California. Ian received his Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from California State University Long Beach, where he specialized in drum set, marimba and composition.
He currently teaches, designs, and composes for the Chino Hills HS percussion ensemble and has been there since 2010. He also instructed Pacifica HS from 2006-2011 and Los Alamitos HS from 2005 – 2011. In the summer of 2009, Ian was brought on as the electronics consultant/arranger with the world famous Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps and worked there from 2009 to 2012. Ian joined the design team for the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps as the front ensemble and Co-Brass arranger from 2013-2016. He also composes original marching band shows for several HS programs around the country.
Ian is a Signature Vic Firth artist, a Yamaha artist, a Remo artist, a Zildjian artist and a WGI Percussion Advisory Board member. In the summer of 2008, he launched Box-Six.com, a website compiling original indoor percussion and marching band shows with fellow composer John Mapes.
Ian lives in Fullerton, CA.
This is Stevens 9th year on staff with Pulse. He was born and raised in Southern California and studied at California State University, Fullerton. He was a member of Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corps (2002 – 2005) and The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps (2006 – 2008). Steven is a full time visual designer writing for marching bands and indoor drumlines all over the country. On top of being a part of the deign team at Pulsehe has been the POW Percussion’s visual designer from 2013 to the present.
Steven was the drill designer for Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corps from 2010-2012 and returned in 2015. He was on visual staff with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from 2009-2015, where he served as the Visual Caption Head. He also currently works as the drill designer and teacher at Chino Hills HS.
Steven lives in Corona, CA.
This is Rochelle’s 10th year on Pulse staff as a Choreographer where she brings a fresh perspective to the indoor percussion activity with her dance background. Rochelle earned her Master of Arts in Dance from California State University, Long Beach and also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from CSULB. She is on faculty with the Commercial Dance Conservatory at the Orange County School of the Arts, choreographs extensively for nationally ranked dance teams throughout the US, and has taught many conventions/master classes for the United Spirit Association, National Dance Day with the Dizzy Feet Foundation, Kids Artistic Review, Dance aTAK, and the American Ballet Theater Gillespie School. She judges nationally and internationally for USA Dance and USASF Dance Worlds. Performance credits include: BARE Dance Company, RhetOracle Dance Company, “Nip/Tuck” TV show, and Gladys Knight.
Rochelle is the operations manager for Box-Six.com and lives in Orange, CA.
Staff Coordinator & Visual Caption Head
This is Matt's 4th year on staff with Pulse. Matt has marched with Capital Regiment, The Cavaliers, and Aimachi Marching Band. Matt is a full time drill designer and teacher. He has taught The Santa Clara Vanguard since 2010 and became the visual caption head in 2017. In 2010, he had the extreme honor of designing a production for His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said’s Royal Guard of Oman Marching Band. Matt spends his month of May working as the Show Director for a Drum Corps style stage show called "Mix It Up" at Busch Gardens theme park in Williamsburg, VA. Matt is a full-time visual designer and instructor based out of Anaheim, CA.

This is Ryan’s 11th year on staff with Pulse Percussion. Ryan started teaching at Etiwanda HS in the fall of 2014. Until then, he taught Los Alamitos and Chino Hills HS’s for many years. He has taught Carolina Crown, Blue Devils B, Madison Scouts from 2013-2016 and most recently with the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps starting in the summer of 2016.
Ryan’s performance experience includes Esperanza Drum and Bugle Corps, RCC Marching Band, Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps (section leader 07) and RCC Winter Percussion. Ryan was also a charter member of Pulse in 2005!
He is a member of the Vic Firth educational team and lives in Chino Hills, CA.
This is Ezekiel’s 5th year on staff with Pulse, but 8th year with the organization. He worked with POW Percussion from 2012–2015 as snare tech then as the Ensemble Coordinator. Ezekiel is a marching percussion educator and composer based out of Southern California. He is the percussion arranger and percussion caption head at Los Alamitos High School. Ezekiel has been on percussion staff with the Boston Crusaders, Phantom Regiment and most recently completed his 4th year as a snare tech for the Santa Clara Vanguard.
Ezekiel spent his drum corps marching career withe Seattle Cascades, Esperanza and the Phantom Regiment (2006-2007). His indoor percussion marching career included Momentum Percussion theater and Pulse Percussion. He earned his percussion performance degree from The University of North Texas.
He is a member of the Vic Firth education team and lives in Huntington Beach, CA
This is Connor’s 4th year on staff with Pulse Percussion. Connor attended Los Alamitos High School from 2008-2011. His performance experience includes the Mandarins Drum & Bugle Corps, the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps and aged out with the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps. He was a member of POW Percussion in 2012 and continued with Pulse Percussion from 2013-2015.
He worked with POW Percussion in 2016 before teaching with Pulse from 2017 to the present. he taught the Blue Stars from 2015-2018 and started teaching the Bluecoats in 2019. He is currently the Battery Caption head at La Quinta High School. Connor graduated from Cal State Long Beach in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Film & Electronic Arts.

Tenor Tech/Battery Manager
This is Fred’s 7th year on staff with Pulse. Fred’s performance experience includes Pulse Percussion from 2008-2011. He was also a member of Pacific Crest, The Academy and the Yamato Drum and Bugle Corps. He currently teaches San Marino HS and is a graduated of UCLA.
Fred lives in Carson, CA.
This is Sean’s 6th year on staff with Pulse. He is an active performer and educator in Southern California. In 2019 he became the Battery Caption Manager at the Blue Stars after teaching at the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps in 2011, the Blue Knights from 2012-2013, and Phantom Regiment, from 2014-2018.
Sean started his drum corps career in 2008 marching tenors with the Vanguard Cadets. After a successful season, he marched tenors with the Santa Clara Vanguard A Corps in 2009 and aged out with them in 2010. Sean graduated California State University, Northridge with a degree in Music Industry Studies.
Sean lives in Simi Valley, CA.
Bass Drum Tech
This is Joey’s 7th year on staff with Pulse. As a bass tech he has taught Blue Devils B in 2012, the Blue Devil A corps in 2013, the Phantom Regiment from 2014-2018, and was with the Blue Stars for their 2019 season.
His performance experience includes the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle corps, Blue Devils B, RCC Winter Percussion Ensemble and Pulse Percussion. Joey has a BA in Business Accountancy from Fresno State and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Business, also from Fresno State. He is currently a classroom teacher at Clovis West High School and teaches CTE Banking & Finance. He also serves as the Program Coordinator and Marching Percussion Caption Head for Fall and Winter at Clovis West as well.

Bass Drum Tech
This is Jonny’s 1st full season on staff with Pulse after helping out part time in 2019. He has actively participated in the marching arts for over ten years as a performer, educator, designer, and bass drum specialist.
His performance experience includes the Velvet Knights, the RCC Marching Tigers, Pulse Open, Pulse Percussion, and the Santa Clara Vanguard. Jonny has also been featured as a musician on the hit television shows "Glee" and "Parks and Recreation". As an educator and designer Jonny has worked with numerous high school programs across the Inland Empire and has had the privilege of working with a phenomenal educational team as a bass tech at the Troopers drum and bugle corps since 2014.
This is Derek’s 5th year with Pulse but 7th year with the organization after being on staff with POW Percussion in 2014 and 2015. His performance experience includes The Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps 2012, The Academy Drum & Bugle Corps 2010 and 2011 as well as the RCC Winter Drumline 2012 and Pulse Percussion 2009 – 2011. Derek graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a B.S. focused in Computer Information Systems.
Derek currently lives in Chino, CA.
This will be Pablo’s 2nd year on staff with Pulse Percussion. Pablo's performance experience includes Pulse Percussion 2009, RCC Marching Tigers 2009, The Academy Drum and Bugle Corp 2012, and RCC Indoor Percussion 2010-2014. He has worked with Rancho Cucamonga HS, Upland HS, Rowland HS, Great Oak HS, RCC Marching Tigers and RCC Indoor Percussion.
Pablo is currently on staff at the Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corps and was previously on staff with Dark Sky Percussion. During the spring, he teaches at Kyoto Ravissant Reb'c Indoor Percussion based out Kyoto, Japan and Soka University Drumline in Hachioji, Japan.
Front Ensemble staff
This is Kevin’s 2nd year as part of the educational staff at Pulse Percussion after teaching POW Percussion in 2018. His performance experience includes POW Percussion, Pulse Percussion, RCC Marching Tigers, Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps, and the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps. Through these experiences he has won two World Championship titles and the Fred Sanford Best Percussion Performance Award.
Kevin recently graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting.
Front Ensemble staff
Anthony is an instructor and performer based in Southern California and this is his 2nd full year on staff with Pulse. He teaches multiple high school ensembles including Chino Hills HS, Woodbridge HS and El Dorado HS. Anthony just finished a summer on staff with Carolina Crown as well.
Anthony recently received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from California State University, Fullerton and plans to continue on to get his Master’s in Music Performance in the future.
Front Ensemble staff
This is Jimmy’s 1st year on staff with Pulse Percussion after working with POW Percussion from 2015-2018. Jimmy moved to Southern California after teaching and writing for many programs in Arizona including Basha HS, Highland HS, Desert Ridge HS, and Casa Grande Union HS to name a few, as well as Paragon (PIO) and Mosaic Percussion (PIO). He was also on the WGAZ (Winter Guard Arizona) Board of Directors from 2010 to 2014 in the roles of Percussion Director/Liaison and Percussion Judges Coordinator. He was a member of the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps in 2005 and the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps in 2006 playing marimba in both ensembles, and Momentum Percussion Theater (PIW) from 2004 to 2006, and the Arizona State University Winter Drumline (PIW) in 2007 as timpanist. Jimmy studied in the Audio Production Technologies program at Mesa Community College in Mesa, AZ.
Jimmy was on staff with The Mandarins Drum & Bugle Corps in 2016. He also teaches, designs, and consults for a few local programs in California, Arizona, and Hawaii. Jimmy is currently an active clinician and judge for both marching band and indoor percussion circuits. He is a member of the Vic Firth Educational Team, a Remo Educational artist, lives in Culver City, CA and works at SpaceX in Hawthorne, CA.
This is Chris's 4th year on teaching staff but has been around since 2014 as a Board Member and officer. Chris is a marching arts professional and drill designer based out of Southern California. He has taught, designed, and consulted with numerous ensembles such as Gladstone, Monrovia, Patriot, Rubidoux, Jurupa Valley, Diamond Bar, Los Altos, and Vista Murrieta. Currently, he is on the instructional staff of El Dorado High School and Chino Hills High School.
Chris was a visual staff member at Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps from 2007 to 2012, Caption Head from 2010 to 2012 and, after a short break, returned to Pacific Crest for the 2015 and 2016 season. He joined Santa Clara Vanguard's visual staff for the 2016 season .
In his free time Chris likes to work on his 1965 Mustang and go to car shows. He lives in Mira Loma, CA.
This is Sammie’s 3rd year on staff with Pulse Percussion. She currently resides in Long Beach, CA where she is actively pursuing degrees in Dance and Kineseology. She's a full time dance teacher, color guard director, visual instructor and choreographer.
She has been the Dance and Guard director at Redondo Union High School for 4 years. She also actively designs and choreographs nationally for groups including State Champs Gibson County HS in TN. Previous teaching experience consists of movement designer and visual instruction for the Spirit of Atlanta, Assistant color guard caption head at Pacific Crest, Director of Choctawhatchee World Guard, and choreographer/technician for O2 Independent World.
Sammie's WGI performance experience consists of five years with the O foundation in Dayton, OH. She began in 2010 with Open Class Champions O2 and then spent '11-'14 with Onyx World to earn two World Championship titles. Sammie spent the five summers of '08-'12 performing with the Teal Sound Drum & Bugle Corps where she served as color guard captain for her final three years. Sammie aged out in '12 with the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps.
In her free time she enjoys spending time with her cats Stella and Mr. Moo.
